Volunteer with Girls Inc.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Girls Inc. We are excited to offer you some great volunteer opportunities which will allow you to help the members at Girls Inc. be Strong, Smart, and Bold! We are currently recruiting volunteers and interns for summer programs.

To Get Involved

  1. Print and fill out the volunteer application(pdf). Send your completed application to Volunteer Coordinator, Girls Inc., 1108 W. 8th St., Bloomington, IN 47404.

  2. If you are volunteering as a requirement for a class, you'll also need to fill out the service learner contract(pdf).

  3. REGISTER FOR AN ORIENTATION: Email Erin at epolicinski@monroe.girls-inc.org to sign up for an orientation. The sessions last about one hour. The orientations will be held at Girls Inc., which is located at 1108 W. 8th St. (on the corner of 8th and Elm) and is very close to the 3 bus route (which is a free ride with a student ID). Orientation times are TBD.

After-School Programming

We have volunteer opportunities in our after-school programming from 2:30 - 6:00pm Monday-Friday. Volunteers are placed in specific slots within our programs so sign up early if you would like to volunteer with a specific program. The programs vary each semester and also include homework help with opportunities to tutor and read with girls.

Commitment

We ask for a minimum weekly commitment of a 3 hour time block on the same day each week from volunteers working with the after-school program. We do this to ensure that a meaningful connection is created between you and our members. Additional training may be offered throughout the semester to better equip staff and volunteers with skills and techniques to relate to the girls and lead programs. Volunteers are expected to attend this training, if possible, and will be able to count the hours as volunteer hours.

Summer Camp Red Fox

We have volunteer opportunities with Camp Red Fox between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:30 pm Monday-Friday (June 4 - August 10). Volunteers work with other staff members to provide summer camp programming and supervision for girls ages 6 - 18. Camp activities include hiking, swimming, arts and crafts, games, CrossFit Kids, as well as themed weekly activities and field trips.
