Media Literacy®
Girls Inc. Media Literacy®, a comprehensive media literacy program, encourages girls to think critically about media messages and fosters their awareness of the scope and power of the media and its effects on girls and women. Girls gain skills that enhance their ability to critically examine and advocate for change in entertainment, news, and advertising media. Girls learn to analyze critically what they see and hear in the media, advocate for change in entertainment, news, and advertising media, and create images that are more realistic and reflective of their lives.
Components of Media Literacy include Media and Me™ (6-8 year olds), Media Smarts™ (9-11 year olds), Girls Take Another Look™ (12-15 year olds), Girls Get the Message® (15-18 year olds), and special companion production-based community action project Girls Make the Message™ (15 to 18 year olds).
